skincare from earth's garden
Terra Tribe About us: Terra Tribe, a young Toronto born company is part of the Independent Beauty lines of product bringing only natural and pure products onto the market. Here are just some of the plants we use in our products, and why we use it. Passiflora edulis – Passion Fruit/Maracuja: Harvested from the rain forests of South America, the passion fruit is known to local tribes as “Mara Kuya”, which translates to “Food In Cuia” or Food in Bowls, since the passion fruit, when cut in half resembles two little bowls. Maracuja oil is then derived from the seeds of the passion fruit. Known as one of the lighter oils, it is suitable for all skin types. Due to its non occlusive nature (does not merely sit on the surface of the skin), it is suitable for oily and acne prone skin as it also helps to control oil production. Maracuja is highly nutritious and beneficial for mature and dry skin as well. Rich in Vitamin C, it helps to restore the appearance of weathered and dull skin. Its essential fatty acid content helps to ward off inflammation and nourishes, keeping the skin looking fresh. Butyrospermum parkii – Shea Butter: Used for centuries in Western Africa, the shea nut comes from the Karite tree which is known as the Tree of Life. Shea butter has traditionally be used (and is still being used today) for moisturizing, protecting and healing the skin. Truly a miracle plant, the chemical composition of shea butter resembles that of vernix, which is the substance found on newborns at birth. Therefore, gentle enough for a newborn, but effective enough to repair aged, weathered skin. Rosa rubiginosa – Rosehip: The rosehip plant contains one of the richest plant sources of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is important as it slows the rate of free radical damage (Free radical damage speeds the aging process to the skin as it damages collagen, which in turn causes fine lines, wrinkles, dullness and dryness. Overall, the oil from the humble rosehip seed contains regenerative properties, evens and brightens skin tone. It also helps to control oil production, which makes it suitable for oily and combination skin. Vitis vinifera - Grapeseed: Grapeseed oil, which is obtained from the vitis vinifera grape family contains a healthy amount of linoleic acid. Linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid is essential in the general health of skin and hair as it helps to maintain the health of cell membranes. Known as one of the best astringent oils, grapeseed is known to help balance oil production, as well as being highly moisturizing and is therefore used in our Blemish & Acne Facial Oil. Anthemis nobilis – Roman Chamomile Flower: Used in aromatherapy for its calming effect, Chamomile contains wonderful healing properties and was used in WWI to clean soldiers’ wounds. As a natural anti-septic and anti-bacterial, we currently use it in our Cream Deodorant and Coconut and Chamomile spray. Lavandula angustifolia - Lavender Flower: Its latin name lavandula which translates to “wash off” referring to its wonderful scent, is an effective anti-bacterial and is traditionally used as a topical salve for minor cuts and scrapes to disinfect the area. We currently use it in our Cream Deodorant to fight bacteria, and to give our product a wonderful smell. Amant – Love – Ok, so love, is not a plant, but each and every one of our products are made with care and love. From the initial stages of formulation and design (choosing the very best ingredients) to our small batch sizes to ensure quality, right down to bottling and labeling our products, our every intention is to bring you the very best products possible.
